“Yoga is the space where flower blossoms.” by Amit Ray
Flourish Yoga was founded in 2016 by Kirsty Purifoy, after blending her career as an occupational therapist, her love of yoga and the completion of her certification in Medical Therapeutic Yoga. Kirsty saw clients privately until spring 2020, when she was invited to partner with Heath Golf and Yacht Club - Club House to provide yoga and wellness services to the Heath community.
Flourish Yoga classes are designed for all levels, from beginner to advanced practioners. Every person, regardless of age or ability, is capable of moving through our classes, which have a balanced blend of static postures and dynamic flow that benefits the body, mind and spirit.
Classes are designed to foster the realization of the powerful wellness benefits of yoga, including a stronger, toned and more flexible body, and most importantly, an improved state of mind that encourages relaxation, self-acceptance and self awareness.
Yogis are challenged and encouraged to practice at their pace and level of comfort while following the path of their yoga journey.
The Flourish Yoga Family
Occupational Therapist, Medical Yoga Therapist, Yoga Instructor, & Founder of Flourish Yoga
Kirsty created Flourish Yoga Therapy by blending her experiences in evidence-based occupational therapy, psychology and Medical Therapeutic Yoga to enhance wellness in the body, mind and spirit of her clients.
Mind: A bachelor of science degree in psychology empowers Kirsty to be perceptive of the emotional and motivational needs in her clients. She uses this knowledge to encourage her clients and provide a safe and comfortable environment to relieve stress, find confidence and become more self-aware.
Body: A master's degree in occupational therapy has enabled Kirsty to work in the medical field since 2000 and has worked with a variety of conditions, including: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, scoliosis, osteoporosis, diabetes, fibromyalgia, high/low blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, Parkinson’s disease, fractures, head injuries, spinal pain, injuries and surgeries. Kirsty encourages wellness, quality of life and goal achievement in her clients by developing programs to help them gain strength, mobility and independence.
Spirit: Kirsty started her yoga practice in 2000. After falling in love with Ashtanga yoga in 2003, Kirsty completed over 550 hours of yoga teacher training. Her experience deepened her connection with her inner spirit. She feels that finding that connection is an essential part of wellness, and can nurture that aspect of a student's practice if desired.
Flourish: Kirsty combined her love of yoga and experience in healthcare to take a more holistic approach to rehabilitation. She completed her Medical Therapeutic Yoga (MTY) studies at the Professional Yoga Therapy Institute (PYTI) in 2016. By blending her experiences in occupational therapy, psychology and Medical Therapeutic Yoga, she created Flourish Yoga Therapy to enhance wellness in the body, mind and spirit in her clients.

NEW TO FLOURISH
We Love New Yogis!
Yoga is designed for any body type and all levels of yoga practitioners.... You do not have to be flexible to do yoga.
Vinyasa Yoga classes are rigorous but a highly transformative practice that is designed to be dynamic and demanding.
If you feel challenged, that is okay… Just try to make the same shape of the pose the best you can with your feet, arms and body.
Props (blocks and belts) can be helpful but aren’t necessary… All you need is enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
With a consistent practice you will notice that poses require less effort and that you have increased tone, flexibility and an ability to focus as well as an overall improved state of mind.
Below are a few suggestions to help enhance your yoga experience.
Register for class and sign the online waiver prior to your visit.
Space is limited, so it is recommended to sign up for class through our website beforehand.
Please arrive at least 5 minutes before class.
If you aren't able to make it to a class that you have signed up for, no worries. Life happens. Just reschedule.
Please discuss any injuries/health issues with your instructor prior to class.
Wear what you feel good sweating in. Breathable fabric is preferred. Avoid cotton if possible. No shoes or socks are needed in the practice room.
Come to class hydrated. Make sure you have water throughout your day before you practice, and remember to drink plenty of water after your practice to stay hydrated.
Come to class on an empty stomach. Allowing a couple hours to pass after your last meal before your practice is usually necessary. Some people need more or less time, so see what works best for you.
Bring a yoga mat, towel and water.
If class feels intense, feel free to take a break in child’s pose. The desire for breaks fades as you focus on your breath and become readjusted to your environment.
If for any reason you must leave early, please let the instructor know before class so they can assist you with the least disruption as possible.
Yoga is a lifelong practice.
Yoga is meant for all ages and all types of people. As long as you are focused on your breath and doing the best you can, you will receive all the benefits of each pose even if you are not as flexible or balanced as someone next to you.
Practice regularly. A consistent practice of 4-to-6 times a week will allow you to receive maximum benefits. (You will still receive these benefits with a reduced amount of time, but it just may take a little longer.)
